The Vietnamese dong (VND) is the official currency; US dollars are widely accepted at hotels and tour operators but small vendors and markets deal in dong only. ATMs are common in cities; withdrawal fees average 50,000–70,000 VND per transaction.
Card payments are increasingly accepted in cities but cash is still king in the countryside — carry small denominations for markets and street food.
